This vulnerability has been fixed in the Linux kernel in the commits identified by hashes such as d18a3b5d337fa412a38e776e6b4b857a58836575 and others. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version including these fixes to mitigate the vulnerability. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. No vendor advisory states that no action is required.
Description
CVE-2026-46078 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's EROFS filesystem implementation. It involves improper handling of out-of-bounds name offsets for trailing directory entries, which can cause a read beyond the directory block boundary. This occurs because the calculation of name lengths uses strnlen() with unchecked name offsets, potentially leading to underflow and out-of-bounds reads. The vulnerability has been fixed in specific Linux kernel commits.
