AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied. The fix limits the maximum hardware sectors to the smaller of the reported MDTS and the 2 MiB driver limit, preventing oversized I/O requests. Users should update to a Linux kernel version that includes this fix. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mpt3sas SCSI driver related to NVMe request size handling has been resolved. The driver previously allocated a fixed 4K buffer for the PRP list, supporting a maximum I/O transfer size of 2 MiB, but did not properly limit requests based on the HBA firmware's reported NVMe MDTS values. This could lead to oversized I/O requests causing a kernel oops. The issue is fixed by limiting the maximum hardware sectors to the smaller of the reported MDTS and the 2 MiB driver limit.
