A patch is available and has been released to fix this race condition in the Linux kernel. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8566-1 confirms that this and other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed. Applying the official kernel updates will mitigate this issue.

Description

A race condition in the Linux kernel's KVM x86 virtualization code could cause a spurious warning and unnecessary VM-Enter/VM-Exit cycles during nested virtualization. The issue arises from a timing mismatch in interrupt handling between sender and target virtual CPUs, leading to incorrect reporting of pending interrupts. The interrupt is not lost, but the inefficiency can degrade performance. This vulnerability has been fixed in updated Linux kernel releases.
