AI-suggested

A fix is available in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-136.136 and later, as well as specific patched versions listed. Users should upgrade to these fixed kernel versions to mitigate the issue. No additional action is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel flow dissector component related to PPPoE Protocol Field Compression (PFC) frames has been resolved. The kernel incorrectly attempted to dissect PPPoE PFC frames, which are not recommended by RFC 2516 and not supported by pppd. This caused 4-byte misalignment and unaligned access exceptions on some architectures such as MIPS, potentially leading to kernel crashes. The fix prevents processing of PPPoE PFC frames to reduce attack surface and maintain performance.
