AI-suggested
A fix is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 6.17.0-1017.19 and later, including various Ubuntu kernel package versions. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to these fixed versions or later to remediate this vulnerability. After updating, a system reboot is required. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be necessary. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official patches.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA/rxe subsystem caused incorrect conversion from IO virtual addresses (iova) to virtual addresses (va) when memory region (MR) page sizes differ from the system PAGE_SIZE. This flaw could lead to kernel panics and potentially allow attackers to compromise system integrity. The issue was fixed by replacing the xarray with a pre-allocated array for sequential indexing and adding boundary checks to correctly handle different page size relationships. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and fixes have been released in versions starting from 6.17.0-1017.19 and later.
