Published: 10/07/2026 (10/07/2026, 13:55:19 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: wger-project
Product: wger

Description

wger is a free, open-source workout and fitness manager. Prior to version 2.6, a user with only the `gym_trainer` permission can deactivate any account in the same gym, including `gym_manager` and `general_gym_manager` accounts. The `UserDeactivateView` grants access to anyone holding any one of `gym.manage_gym`, `gym.manage_gyms`, or `gym.gym_trainer` (OR logic via `WgerMultiplePermissionRequiredMixin`), and performs no privilege-hierarchy check to prevent a lower-privileged role from disabling a higher-privileged one. Version 2.6 fixes the issue.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in wger before version 2.6 allows a user holding the gym_trainer permission to deactivate accounts of users with higher privileges (gym_manager and general_gym_manager) in the same gym. The UserDeactivateView uses an OR logic permission check (gym.manage_gym, gym.manage_gyms, or gym.gym_trainer) without verifying privilege levels, enabling lower-privileged users to disable higher-privileged accounts. This improper privilege management is classified under CWE-269 and has a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.1 (high severity). The issue is resolved in wger version 2.6.

Potential Impact

An attacker with gym_trainer permissions can deactivate accounts of higher-privileged users within the same gym, potentially disrupting gym management operations and causing denial of service to those users. The confidentiality impact is low, integrity impact is high due to unauthorized account deactivation, and availability impact is none.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade wger to version 2.6 or later, where this privilege management issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required as the fix is official and available.
