Technical Analysis

Apache NimBLE versions before 1.10.0 contain an improper input validation vulnerability (CWE-20) in the Mesh Proxy SAR reassembly process. This vulnerability can lead to the processing of malformed data, resulting in increased memory pressure and unstable parsing behavior within the application. The vendor has addressed this issue in version 1.10.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability may cause memory pressure and unstable parsing behavior due to broken data being passed to the application during Mesh Proxy SAR reassembly. This could potentially affect the stability of applications using vulnerable versions of Apache NimBLE. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache NimBLE to version 1.10.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor's recommendation to upgrade to 1.10.0.
