Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-46616 is an open redirect vulnerability (CWE-601) in Umbraco CMS, an ASP.NET content management system. The issue arises because certain Surface Controllers used for member-related operations do not validate redirect URLs properly. Razor templates that use 'RedirectUrl' from user-controlled query parameters can be exploited to redirect users to untrusted sites. This vulnerability affects versions prior to 13.14.0 and 17.4.0 and has been fixed in those versions.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could allow attackers to redirect users to malicious websites, potentially facilitating phishing or other social engineering attacks. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality and integrity to a limited extent by enabling user redirection but does not affect availability. The CVSS score is 5.4 (medium severity).

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Umbraco CMS to version 13.14.0 or later, or 17.4.0 or later, where the vulnerability has been patched. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are indicated. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor advisory stating the fix is included in these versions.
