Technical Analysis

In EmberZNet versions up to and including 9.0.2, a malformed Level Control Move command can cause a divide-by-zero fault, resulting in process termination. The command must originate from a device that has already joined the network, and only devices supporting the Level Control cluster are impacted. This vulnerability is identified as CWE-369 (Divide by Zero) and has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 7.1, indicating high severity. No official patch or remediation level has been published by Silicon Labs as of the data provided.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an attacker with network access and privileges to send a malformed Level Control Move command to cause a divide-by-zero fault, leading to process termination. This could result in denial of service on affected devices supporting the Level Control cluster within the EmberZNet stack.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or remediation level is provided, users should monitor Silicon Labs advisories for updates. Until a patch is available, restricting network access to trusted devices and limiting the ability of untrusted devices to send Level Control Move commands may reduce risk.
