CVE-2026-48704: CWE-20: Improper Input Validation in warpdotdev warp
Warp is an agentic development environment. From 0.2023.10.24.08.03.stable_00 until 0.2026.05.06.15.42.stable_01, Warp may open executable local files through the operating system default file handler. A malicious Markdown document or project can contain a local-file link that appears as normal rendered content. If a user opens the Markdown in Warp and clicks the link, affected builds may route the resolved local file to a platform file opener instead of limiting the action to safe viewer/editor targets. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.2026.05.06.15.42.stable_01.
AI Analysis
Technical Summary
Warp versions from 0.2023.10.24.08.03.stable_00 up to but not including 0.2026.05.06.15.42.stable_01 improperly validate input in Markdown documents by allowing local-file links to be opened with the operating system's default executable handler. This behavior can lead to execution of local files when a user clicks a link in Warp, violating safe handling expectations. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-20 (Improper Input Validation) and has a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The issue is resolved in version 0.2026.05.06.15.42.stable_01.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation can lead to execution of local executable files when users interact with malicious Markdown content, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system. This could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or perform unauthorized actions via user interaction.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Warp version 0.2026.05.06.15.42.stable_01. Users and administrators should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary given the availability of the official fix.
