Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49278 describes an improper authorization vulnerability (CWE-285) in Rocket.Chat's visitors.info API endpoint. In affected versions prior to 8.5.0, 8.4.2, 8.3.4, 8.2.4, 8.1.5, 8.0.6, 7.13.8, and 7.10.12, the endpoint returns a token in the response where it is not needed, potentially exposing sensitive information. The vulnerability is addressed by removing the token from the response in the fixed versions.

Potential Impact

The exposure of a token in the visitors.info endpoint response could lead to unauthorized access or privilege escalation if the token is used for authentication or session management. The CVSS score of 6.7 (medium severity) reflects a network attack vector with low attack complexity but requiring high privileges, impacting confidentiality and integrity with limited availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Rocket.Chat to one of the fixed versions: 8.5.0, 8.4.2, 8.3.4, 8.2.4, 8.1.5, 8.0.6, 7.13.8, or 7.10.12. These versions remove the token from the visitors.info endpoint response, eliminating the vulnerability. No other mitigation steps are indicated.
