Description

The vscode-ibmi extension for Visual Studio Code prior to version 3.0.1 stores Object Browser downloads and edit-save flow content in the shared /tmp directory without reliable cleanup. Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49484 describes an insecure temporary file vulnerability (CWE-377) in the vscode-ibmi extension for Visual Studio Code. Specifically, versions prior to 3.0.1 store sensitive content related to Object Browser downloads and edit-save flows in the shared /tmp directory without proper cleanup. On systems where /tmp is accessible by other local accounts, this can lead to unauthorized local users reading the contents of these files. The vulnerability is fixed in version 3.0.1.

Potential Impact

Unauthorized local users on the same system can read temporary files containing potentially sensitive data related to Object Browser downloads and editing operations. This could lead to information disclosure. The CVSS 4.0 score is 5.1 (medium severity), reflecting the requirement for local privileges and user interaction, and the limited confidentiality impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the vscode-ibmi extension to version 3.0.1 or later, where the issue is fixed by ensuring temporary files are not left readable in the shared /tmp directory. No additional mitigation is required once the update is applied.
