Published: 07/24/2026 (07/24/2026, 08:51:16 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Imagination Technologies
Product: Graphics DDK

Description

Kernel software installed and running inside a Guest VM may post improper commands to the GPU Firmware to trigger a write of data outside the Guest's virtualised GPU memory. Out of bounds accesses triggered by malware introduced to a Guest KMD could allow privilege escalation which escapes virtualization boundaries.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-49744 is a use of out-of-range pointer offset vulnerability (CWE-823) in Imagination Technologies Graphics DDK. Kernel-mode drivers inside a guest VM can post malformed commands to the GPU firmware, triggering writes beyond the allocated virtual GPU memory. This out-of-bounds access could allow malicious code within the guest to escalate privileges and break out of the virtualized environment.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows a guest VM's kernel software to perform out-of-bounds memory writes to the GPU firmware, potentially leading to privilege escalation and escape from virtualization boundaries. This compromises the isolation between guest and host, risking host system integrity and confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or workaround information is currently available. Until a patch is released, restrict untrusted kernel-mode code execution within guest VMs and monitor for suspicious GPU command activity.
