Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in reportico-web (<= 8.1.0) enables remote attackers to perform arbitrary file writes and directory traversal by specifying a crafted filename in the "saveTemplate" parameter while using the "execute_mode=PREPARE" parameter on the "run.php" endpoint. This can lead to unauthorized file creation or overwriting anywhere on the filesystem within the permissions of the web server user.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to write or overwrite arbitrary files on the affected system with the privileges of the web server user. This can lead to potential code execution, data manipulation, or denial of service depending on the files overwritten. The impact depends on the permissions of the web user and the files targeted.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to the vulnerable endpoint and parameters, and consider applying web application firewall rules to block suspicious requests targeting the "saveTemplate" and "execute_mode=PREPARE" parameters.
