AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1111.115~20.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases or newer to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required as the fix bounds the user input to prevent overflow.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's I2C subsystem allowed an integer overflow in the I2C_TIMEOUT ioctl call. This flaw could cause the SMBus controller state machine to become corrupted, leading to a local denial of service (DoS). The issue arises from improper bounds checking on a user-supplied timeout value, which when multiplied, overflows and results in a negative timeout value that disrupts normal operation. The vulnerability has been fixed in Linux kernel versions starting from 5.15.0-1111.115~20.04.1 and later.
