A patch is available and should be applied through standard system updates. Applying the update requires a system reboot and recompilation of any third-party kernel modules due to ABI changes. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A medium severity vulnerability (CVE-2026-52994) in the Linux kernel's vsock/virtio subsystem related to MSG_ZEROCOPY pinned-pages accounting has been fixed. The flaw involved incorrect handling of memory accounting for pinned pages due to use of an iterator count after consumption, potentially allowing bypass of RLIMIT_MEMLOCK enforcement. The issue was corrected by explicitly passing the total packet length to the relevant function, aligning with TCP and UDP implementations. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0 releases are affected. A patch is available and should be applied via standard system updates, which require a reboot and recompilation of third-party kernel modules due to ABI changes. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
