AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been fixed. Users should update to a fixed kernel version at or beyond 7.0.0-28.28 or the corresponding patched builds listed. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A memory leak vulnerability in the Linux kernel's i3c master driver for Renesas devices was fixed. The issue involved the xfer structure allocated by renesas_i3c_alloc_xfer() not being freed in renesas_i3c_i3c_xfers(), causing a memory leak. This flaw was addressed by using the __free(kfree) cleanup attribute to automatically free the memory when the variable goes out of scope. The vulnerability affects multiple versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel prior to version 7.0.0-28.28 and several specific older kernel builds. The issue has a medium severity score and does not impact confidentiality or integrity but can cause availability issues due to memory leaks. A patch is available and has been released by the vendor.
