An official patch is available and should be applied promptly. Ubuntu has released security updates addressing this vulnerability as part of USN-8566-1. Users should update to the fixed Linux kernel versions provided by their distribution. No additional mitigations are specifically required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's crypto: hisilicon/sec2 driver was resolved. Under heavy load during packet transmission, the hardware might free a request memory (req) before the transmission function completes, leading to a use-after-free error when software accesses the freed req. The fix replaces the req with qp_ctx memory, which persists throughout the packet sending process. This vulnerability has a high severity with a CVSS score of 9.8 and affects multiple Linux kernel versions. An official patch is available from Ubuntu and other Linux distributors.
