What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been applied in the Linux kernel to reject short IPv4/IPv6 inputs earlier in bpf_prog_test_run_skb(), preventing invalid memory access. Users should update to the patched kernel version once available. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; check the vendor advisory for the current remediation guidance.

Description

A medium-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem was resolved that involved improper handling of short IPv4/IPv6 inputs in the bpf_prog_test_run_skb function. The function could access network headers even when the input only contained an Ethernet header, potentially causing invalid memory access. The fix rejects inputs earlier if the Ethernet frame carries IPv4/IPv6 EtherType but the Layer 3 header is too short, preventing out-of-bounds access.
