Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem involved holding the per-VMA lock across the BPF program body, causing a lock ordering problem. This issue was resolved by snapshotting the VMA under the per-VMA lock and releasing the lock before returning, ensuring the BPF program accesses only the snapshot. The verifier trusts only certain pointers, and reference counting is properly managed to maintain correctness.
