AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. Ubuntu has released security updates addressing this vulnerability as part of their kernel security notices (e.g., USN-8566-1). Users should update to the fixed kernel versions to mitigate this issue. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fsl-mc bus driver was resolved by adopting the generic driver_override infrastructure to ensure proper locking. The issue occurs because the bus' match() callback is called without holding the device lock, leading to unsafe access to the driver_override field. This flaw could allow a local attacker with limited privileges to escalate privileges. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-136.136 and several specific older versions. A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu and other vendors.
