A patch is available and should be applied. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8566-1 includes this fix as part of a broader Linux kernel update. Systems running affected kernel versions should upgrade to the fixed versions to remediate this issue.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ublk userspace block driver was fixed by resetting the per-IO canceled flag immediately when each IO is fetched. Previously, if a ublk server died before fetching all IOs, some IOs could remain in a canceled state indefinitely, preventing proper cancellation and completion. This issue could lead to denial of service by leaving IO commands outstanding. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and several specific older versions. A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu as part of a broader Linux kernel security update.
