AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix cancels the pending shrink work item before destroying the mbcache, preventing use-after-free. Users should update to fixed kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mbcache subsystem was resolved. The issue occurs because the mb_cache_destroy() function does not cancel a pending shrink work item before freeing the cache, leading to potential memory access after free. This flaw can only be triggered by privileged users who can cause the last put of a mounted ext2/ext4/ocfs2 filesystem. A fix is available that cancels the work item before destroying the cache to prevent use-after-free.
