A patch is available and fixed versions include Linux kernel 6.8.0-1066.69~22.04.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these fixed kernel versions or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are required as the issue is resolved in these official updates.
Description
A buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/amdkfd component affecting SDMA queue checkpoint/restore on GFX11 was fixed. The issue was caused by incorrect use of larger compute MQD structures for smaller SDMA MQD buffers, leading to a 1536-byte overflow. This overflow could leak adjacent memory to userspace during checkpoint and corrupt memory during restore. The flaw was unique to version 11 of the MQD manager and has been corrected by adding proper handling functions for the SDMA MQD structure.
