A fix for this vulnerability is available and has been incorporated in Linux kernel versions following 5.19 via multiple commits. Users should update their Linux kernel to a fixed version that includes the patch. Systems not using AMD GFX11 GPUs or not performing checkpoint/restore operations on AMD GPU compute queues are not exposed. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
CVE-2026-53143 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMD KFD driver affecting SDMA queue checkpoint and restore operations on GFX11 (Navi3x) GPUs. The flaw arises from using an incorrect buffer size during checkpoint and restore, causing a 1536-byte overflow. This can lead to leakage of adjacent kernel memory to userspace during checkpoint and memory corruption during restore. The issue is specific to version 5.19 of the Linux kernel and is fixed in later commits. Exploitation requires local access and use of checkpoint/restore on AMD GPU compute queues.
