AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-1064.67~22.04.1 and later. Users and administrators should update affected Linux kernel versions to these fixed releases or newer to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A use-after-free race condition was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's fastrpc driver. The vulnerability occurs because fastrpc_map_lookup returns a raw pointer after releasing a lock, and the caller then operates on this pointer without proper protection, allowing a concurrent memory unmap to free the object. This flaw could lead to memory corruption and potential privilege escalation. The issue has been addressed by ensuring the reference is acquired atomically under the lock before exposing the pointer. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and fixes are available in later kernel releases.
