AI-suggested

A patch is available and fixed versions include Linux kernel 5.15.0-1117.124~20.04.1 and later 5.15.x releases. Users should upgrade to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fastrpc driver was fixed. The flaw arises from a race condition between the release of a user structure and concurrent workqueue processing of DSP responses, leading to dereferencing freed memory. This can cause memory corruption with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The issue is resolved by introducing reference counting to manage the lifecycle of the user structure safely. Multiple affected Linux kernel versions are fixed in later 5.15.x releases.
