AI-suggested
A patch is available and included in Linux kernel versions 7.0.0-31.31 and later. Users should upgrade to these fixed versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are required as the fix replaces the unsafe random victim selection with a safe round-robin mechanism.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memcg subsystem was resolved by replacing an unsafe random victim selection method with a per-CPU round-robin counter. The issue involved unsafe use of get_random_u32_below() in the non-maskable interrupt (NMI) context, which could corrupt internal random state due to lack of reentrancy and NMI safety. This flaw was fixed in Linux kernel versions 7.0.0-31.31 and later.
