AI-suggested

A patch is available and included in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 and later. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to prevent kernel crashes caused by this vulnerability. No additional mitigation is required as the patch safely disables the affected VF on failure and allows recovery via PCI reset. The vendor advisory confirms the fix and recommends applying the update.

Description

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ice driver was fixed. The issue occurs in the ice_reset_all_vfs() function, which does not properly check the return value of ice_vf_rebuild_vsi(). When VSI rebuild fails, subsequent calls dereference NULL pointers, causing kernel crashes. This happens notably during NVM firmware updates. The fix adds proper error checking to prevent the NULL pointer dereference and kernel panic. The vulnerable versions include multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 and related builds. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 5.5 with low severity and no known exploits in the wild. A patch is available and included in several fixed kernel releases.
