What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to bound the format specifier in the ionic driver, preventing out-of-bounds reads. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, applying the official kernel update is the recommended remediation. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data; users should consult the vendor or kernel mailing lists for the specific fixed version.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA ionic driver involves improper handling of the node_desc sysfs read operation. The node_desc array is not guaranteed to be NUL-terminated, but the ionic hca_type_show() handler uses an unbounded "%s" format specifier, which can cause it to read beyond the intended buffer. This issue is triggerable by userspace since ionic supports IB_DEVICE_MODIFY_NODE_DESC. The vulnerability has been resolved by bounding the format specifier to match the core handler.
