AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix adds the necessary bounds check to prevent out-of-bounds reads in smb_check_perm_dacl(). Systems running affected kernel versions should upgrade to the fixed versions as per the vendor advisory. No additional mitigations are required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ksmbd component allows an out-of-bounds read in the smb_check_perm_dacl() function. This occurs because the code does not properly verify that the ACE size is sufficient to contain the declared number of sub-authorities before accessing them, potentially leading to a heap out-of-bounds read. The flaw can be triggered by an authenticated client on a share using ACL extended attributes via a crafted ACE in the security descriptor. The issue has been fixed by adding the missing size check.
