AI-suggested
A patch is available that corrects this issue by adding calls to commit_reset_write_verifier() in the affected kernel functions. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms the availability of fixes in the linux-hwe-edge kernel versions listed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFS server (nfsd) was fixed that involved improper handling of deferred writeback errors. Specifically, the server's write verifier was not reset on certain writeback errors, causing clients to incorrectly assume their data was durably stored when it was not, violating the NFS durability contract. This could lead to silent data loss for clients using UNSTABLE writes followed by COMMIT operations.
