AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The issue is fixed in Linux kernel versions 7.0.0-31.31~24.04.1 and later, including other specified fixed versions. Users and administrators should update their systems to these fixed versions to mitigate the vulnerability. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability was identified and fixed in the Linux kernel's fbdev omap2 driver, specifically in the omapfb_mmap function. The flaw arises from a race condition between the mmap operation and the OMAPFB_SETUP_PLANE ioctl, which can lead to userspace mapping freed physical memory. This occurs because of inconsistent locking and reference counting on memory regions. The issue has been resolved by ensuring all necessary values are read from a consistent memory region reference before incrementing its map count, preventing premature freeing.
