AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix ensures proper synchronization and reference counting to prevent use-after-free conditions in the omapfb driver. Users should update to patched kernel versions as provided by their distribution vendors. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OMAP framebuffer driver (omapfb_mmap) was fixed. The flaw arises from a race condition between the mmap operation and the OMAPFB_SETUP_PLANE ioctl, allowing userspace to map freed physical memory. This occurs because of inconsistent locking and reference counting on memory regions. The issue has been addressed by ensuring all relevant memory region data is read from the same reference before incrementing the map count, preventing premature freeing of mapped memory.
