Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-54422 affects OpenStack Ironic Python Agent through versions 10.2.0, 11.0.0, and 11.3.0. A malicious boot container deployed via ironic-python-agent can potentially extract the credentials used for its download, due to insufficient protection of these credentials (CWE-522). The vulnerability allows credential exposure but does not impact integrity or availability. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates local attack vector with high attack complexity, no privileges required, and user interaction required, resulting in a confidentiality impact classified as high.

Potential Impact

An attacker able to deploy a malicious boot container locally may extract sensitive credentials used by the ironic-python-agent to download the container. This credential exposure could lead to unauthorized access to resources or further compromise within the environment. There is no direct impact on integrity or availability reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or temporary workaround is currently documented. Users should monitor OpenStack advisories for updates and consider restricting deployment of untrusted boot containers until a fix is available.
