CVE-2026-54697: CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound in connectbot cbssh
Description
ConnectBot SSH Client Library is written in Kotlin with Kaitai Struct and KStateMachine. Prior to 0.3.1, DerReader.readLength() accepts excessive long-form DER length octets, accumulates them into an Int, and primitive readers allocate arrays without checking the declared size against the remaining input. An application or user that loads an attacker-provided private-key file through SshClient.authenticatePublicKey(), SshKeys.decodePemPrivateKey(), SshSigning.sign(), or SshSigning.getPublicKey() can trigger integer wraparound, excessive allocation, or an uncaught OutOfMemoryError. SSH server host keys and agent-forwarding messages do not use this application-supplied private-key input path. No usable weakened key and no confidentiality or integrity impact have been demonstrated. This issue is fixed in version 0.3.1.

Technical Analysis
The ConnectBot SSH Client Library (cbssh) versions before 0.3.1 contain a vulnerability in the DER length parsing logic within DerReader.readLength(). This function accepts excessive long-form DER length octets and accumulates them into an integer without proper bounds checking. Consequently, when an application or user loads a maliciously crafted private-key file through functions like SshClient.authenticatePublicKey(), SshKeys.decodePemPrivateKey(), SshSigning.sign(), or SshSigning.getPublicKey(), it can trigger an integer wraparound. This leads to excessive memory allocation requests and may cause an uncaught OutOfMemoryError. The vulnerability does not impact SSH server host keys or agent-forwarding messages, and no weakened keys or confidentiality/integrity impacts have been demonstrated. The vulnerability is resolved in version 0.3.1.
Potential Impact
An attacker who can supply a crafted private-key file to the affected functions may cause the application to allocate excessive memory or crash due to an uncaught OutOfMemoryError. There is no demonstrated impact on confidentiality or integrity, and no weakened keys are produced. The vulnerability requires local or limited access (local vector) and user interaction. The overall impact is medium severity.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to ConnectBot SSH Client Library version 0.3.1 or later, where this issue is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the vulnerability is resolved in the official fix.
