Description
CVE-2026-54718 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Silverstripe Advanced Workflow module. It allows an attacker with permission to author email templates to inject a specially crafted server-side template payload. This payload is processed by the Silverstripe template engine SSTemplateParser, leading to PHP code evaluation and arbitrary code execution on the server. The vulnerability affects versions prior to 6.4.5, 7.1.3, and 7.2.1 and has been fixed in these versions.

Technical Analysis
Silverstripe Advanced Workflow versions before 6.4.5, 7.1.3, and 7.2.1 contain an improper neutralization vulnerability (CWE-1336) in the NotifyUsersWorkflowAction.EmailTemplate field. An attacker with template authoring permissions can insert a malicious server-side template payload. When rendered by the SSTemplateParser, this payload triggers PHP code execution, enabling arbitrary code execution on the server. The issue is addressed in the specified fixed versions.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows an attacker with email template authoring permissions to execute arbitrary PHP code on the server, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system. The CVSS 3.1 score is 7.2 (high), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, required privileges, no user interaction, and full impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Silverstripe Advanced Workflow to version 6.4.5, 7.1.3, or 7.2.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary fix is indicated. Patch status is not explicitly stated but the vendor has fixed the issue in these versions.
