Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: WeblateOrg
Product: weblate

Description

CVE-2026-55228 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Weblate before version 2026.7. The REST API did not properly enforce project- and workspace-scoped team permissions, allowing users to assign projects to teams via unvalidated API requests. This could grant unauthorized access to private projects and allow unauthorized translation, repository, and project management operations. The issue is fixed in version 2026.7.

Technical Analysis

Weblate versions prior to 2026.7 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-639) in the REST API where scope enforcement for project- and workspace-scoped teams was insufficient. This allowed users to submit invalid team configurations through the API, assigning projects to teams without proper validation. Consequently, users could gain access to projects they were not authorized to see or manage, exposing private project data and permitting unauthorized operations related to translation, repository, and project management. The vulnerability is resolved in version 2026.7.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to private projects and unauthorized translation, repository, and project management actions outside the intended permission scope of the user. This compromises confidentiality and integrity of project data but does not affect availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Weblate to version 2026.7 or later where this authorization bypass issue is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated.
