Published: 07/10/2026 (07/10/2026, 18:36:58 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: grokability
Product: snipe-it

Description

Snipe-IT versions prior to 8.6.2 have an incorrect authorization vulnerability when Full Multiple Companies Support and scope_locations_fmcs are enabled. The API location creation endpoint detects a parent-child company mismatch but does not stop the operation immediately, allowing creation of a child location under a parent location from a different company. This issue is fixed in version 8.6.2.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-55472 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Snipe-IT before version 8.6.2. When Full Multiple Companies Support and scope_locations_fmcs are enabled, the API endpoint for creating locations improperly handles invalid parent-child company relationships. Although it detects mismatches, it does not return immediately, enabling the creation of a child location under a parent location belonging to a different company. This violates intended authorization boundaries. The vulnerability is addressed by a fix in version 8.6.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker with at least low privileges (PR:L) can create locations under parent locations from different companies, potentially leading to unauthorized data association or confusion in asset management. The impact is limited to confidentiality as per the CVSS vector (C:L/I:N/A:N), with no integrity or availability impact reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Snipe-IT to version 8.6.2 or later, where this authorization issue is fixed. Since no official patch link or vendor advisory is provided, confirm the upgrade from the vendor's official release notes or repository. No other mitigations are indicated.
