Technical Analysis

The GTM Server Side plugin by stape.io implements server-side tracking on WordPress websites. Versions 2.0.0 through before 2.1.48 contain a vulnerability in the WooCommerce purchase event tracking mechanism that permits an unauthenticated attacker to cause the rendering of another customer's complete order data, including PII, into the page's JavaScript dataLayer. This exposure of sensitive information (CWE-200) can lead to unauthorized data disclosure. The vulnerability is addressed in version 2.1.48.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can trigger the exposure of sensitive customer order information, including personally identifiable information, by exploiting the WooCommerce purchase event tracking in affected plugin versions. This results in unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data, potentially violating user privacy and data protection regulations.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the GTM Server Side plugin to version 2.1.48 or later, where this vulnerability has been patched. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
