Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-55957 is a missing critical step in the authentication process within Apache Tomcat when configured with JNDIRealm to authenticate binds using GSSAPI. This flaw permits attackers to authenticate without providing the correct password. The vulnerability affects Apache Tomcat versions from 7.0.0 through 7.0.109, 8.5.0 through 8.5.100, 9.0.0.M1 through 9.0.100, 10.1.0-M1 through 10.1.36, and 11.0.0-M1 through 11.0.4. The vendor has addressed this issue in versions 11.0.5, 10.1.37, and 9.0.101.

Potential Impact

Attackers can bypass password authentication when Apache Tomcat is configured to use JNDIRealm with GSSAPI, potentially allowing unauthorized access to the system. This undermines the authentication mechanism's integrity, leading to possible unauthorized system access.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Tomcat to version 11.0.5, 10.1.37, or 9.0.101 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is provided in the available data.
