VulnerabilityCVE-2026-56236cvecve-2026-56236
Published: 06/21/2026 (06/21/2026, 13:26:51 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: capgo
Product: cli

Description

Capgo CLI before 12.128.2 contains arbitrary file overwrite vulnerabilities in login and build credentials operations that follow symlinks without validation. Attackers can create malicious symlinks in repositories to overwrite arbitrary files or expose credentials with world-readable permissions when developers run the CLI.

Technical Analysis

Capgo CLI versions prior to 12.128.2 contain an arbitrary file overwrite vulnerability due to improper validation of symbolic links during login and build credential operations. This 'link following' flaw allows attackers who can place malicious symlinks in repositories to cause the CLI to overwrite arbitrary files or expose sensitive credentials with insecure permissions when executed by developers.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary file overwrite on the developer's system or exposure of credentials with world-readable permissions. This can compromise system integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 6.8 (medium severity), reflecting local attack vector with low complexity but requiring user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid running the CLI on untrusted repositories or ensure that symlinks are not present or are validated before use.
