Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: StoneFly
Product: Storage Concentrator

Description

Storage Concentrator (SC & SCVM) contains a command injection vulnerability in the ms_service.pl service, which listens on TCP port 9000 by default and accepts custom network packets to perform device actions. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send a specially crafted packet containing a malicious payload that is processed without adequate sanitization, resulting in arbitrary command execution with root-level privileges.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-56413 is an OS command injection vulnerability (CWE-78) in StoneFly Storage Concentrator's ms_service.pl service. The service listens on TCP port 9000 and processes custom network packets to perform device actions. Due to improper neutralization of special elements in the input, an unauthenticated remote attacker can send a crafted packet that leads to arbitrary command execution with root-level privileges. This vulnerability is critical with a CVSS 4.0 score of 10, indicating network attack vector, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No patch or remediation level is currently documented.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary OS commands with root privileges on the affected Storage Concentrator device. This can lead to full system compromise, including unauthorized access, data manipulation, and disruption of device operations. The high CVSS score reflects the severity and ease of exploitation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict network access to TCP port 9000 to trusted sources only and monitor for suspicious activity targeting this service.
