Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-56437 describes an uncontrolled search path element vulnerability in Fuji Electric Co.,Ltd.'s Pupsman software. Versions before 3.9.0 are affected. The issue arises when the installer loads DLLs from its current directory without proper validation, enabling an attacker to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges by placing a malicious DLL alongside the installer executable. This vulnerability requires local access and user interaction to trigger.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges on the affected system, potentially leading to full system compromise. The vulnerability requires the attacker to place a crafted DLL in the installer's directory and have the installer executed, which involves user interaction. The CVSS score of 7.8 reflects high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid running the installer from untrusted directories and ensure that the installer's directory does not contain untrusted DLL files. Restrict write permissions to directories where installers are executed to prevent placement of malicious DLLs.
