Description

A critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-56451) exists in Siemens Opcenter X versions prior to V2604 where the application does not properly verify the algorithm specified in the JSON Web Token (JWT) header. This flaw allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to forge arbitrary JWTs, bypass authentication, and impersonate any user, including administrators, potentially gaining full unauthorized access.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-56451 is a cryptographic signature verification vulnerability (CWE-347) in Siemens Opcenter X affecting all versions before V2604. The affected application fails to properly validate the JWT header's algorithm field, enabling attackers to create forged tokens that bypass authentication controls. This can lead to complete compromise of the application by impersonating any user, including administrative accounts. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 10.0, indicating critical severity. No official patch or remediation level has been published yet, and no known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass authentication mechanisms and impersonate any user, including administrators. This can result in full unauthorized access to the Opcenter X application, leading to complete compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Siemens vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the affected Opcenter X instances and monitor for suspicious activity related to JWT authentication. Avoid exposing the service to untrusted networks if possible.
