Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-56599 describes an insecure cookie attribute configuration in HCL BigFix Service Management. Cookies used in HTTPS sessions do not have the Secure attribute set, among other missing security attributes. This omission could allow attackers to exploit the cookies through CSRF, session hijacking via XSS, or unauthorized access. The vulnerability is identified as CWE-614 and has a CVSS v3.1 base score of 2.2, reflecting low severity with local attack vector, high attack complexity, low privileges required, and user interaction needed.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability could allow an attacker with local access and the ability to trick a user into interaction to perform limited confidentiality impact attacks such as session hijacking or CSRF. The overall impact is low, with no integrity or availability impact reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

No vendor advisory or patch information is provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, organizations should consider applying secure cookie attributes (Secure, HttpOnly, SameSite) as a mitigation if configurable, and follow best practices for cookie security in their environment.
