CVE-2026-57162: CWE-121: Stack-based Buffer Overflow in pjsip pjproject
Description
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the pjsip pjproject multimedia communication library in the SRTP/SDES media transport during SDP offer/answer processing. This occurs when handling an excessive number of a=crypto attributes in a single media description, leading to a write beyond a fixed-size stack array. The flaw is reachable from an incoming SIP INVITE before authentication and affects applications with SRTP enabled using SDES keying. The vulnerability has been patched.

Technical Analysis
PJSIP's pjproject library had a stack buffer overflow in the sdes_encode_sdp() function within transport_srtp_sdes.c. The issue arises because the number of a=crypto attributes from the remote SDP is not bounded when collected into a fixed-size stack array during media negotiation. A remote attacker can exploit this by sending a SIP INVITE with an excessive number of a=crypto attributes, causing a stack overflow. This can lead to application crashes or potentially control flow hijacking. The vulnerability affects only applications with SRTP enabled using SDES keying and was fixed in commit a1b707c.
Potential Impact
Exploitation can result in unexpected application termination or memory corruption, including possible control flow hijacking. The vulnerability is exploitable remotely without authentication via a crafted SIP INVITE message. Applications not using SRTP are not affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
An official patch addressing this vulnerability has been released in commit a1b707c. Users should update to the fixed version of pjproject incorporating this commit. Applications that do not enable SRTP with SDES keying are not affected and require no action.
