VulnerabilityCVE-2026-57213cvecve-2026-57213cwe-79
Published: 07/10/2026 (07/10/2026, 20:14:30 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: rabbitmq
Product: rabbitmq-server

Description

RabbitMQ is a messaging and streaming broker. Prior to 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5, the rabbitmq_federation_management plugin renders the consumer_tag field on the Federation Status page without HTML escaping, allowing a user who can configure a federation upstream or policy to execute JavaScript in the browser of a user viewing that page. This issue is fixed in versions 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in rabbitmq-server's federation management plugin involves improper neutralization of input during web page generation (CWE-79). Specifically, the consumer_tag field is rendered without HTML escaping on the Federation Status page, enabling stored cross-site scripting attacks. An attacker who can configure federation upstreams or policies can inject malicious scripts that execute in the context of users viewing the page. The flaw affects versions prior to 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5 and has been addressed in these fixed releases.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with configuration privileges to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of users viewing the Federation Status page. This can lead to session hijacking, information disclosure, or other client-side impacts. The vulnerability requires the attacker to have high privileges (ability to configure federation upstream or policy) and user interaction (viewing the page).

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in rabbitmq-server versions 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5. Users should upgrade to these or later versions to remediate the vulnerability. No vendor advisory content contradicts this; thus, upgrading is the recommended mitigation.
