Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-57213 is a CWE-79 cross-site scripting vulnerability in the rabbitmq_federation_management plugin of rabbitmq-server. The issue arises because the consumer_tag field on the Federation Status page is not HTML-escaped, enabling an attacker with configuration privileges to inject JavaScript that executes in the context of users viewing that page. The vulnerability affects versions prior to 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5, where it has been fixed.

Potential Impact

An attacker who has the ability to configure a federation upstream or policy can inject malicious JavaScript code that executes in the browser of users viewing the Federation Status page. This could lead to actions such as session hijacking or other client-side attacks within the context of the affected user's browser session. The vulnerability requires privileges to configure federation settings and user interaction (viewing the page).

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in rabbitmq-server versions 3.13.14, 4.0.19, 4.1.10, and 4.2.5. Users should upgrade to one of these versions or later to remediate the issue. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor advisory information. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.
