Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Foxit Software Inc.
Product: Foxit PDF Editor

Description

After JavaScript resetting the form, the synchronization process lacks re-entry protection and object lifecycle verification, resulting in the failure of the control pointer during the traversal process. After the pointer fails, it still continues to dereference, causing the application to crash.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability arises when JavaScript resets a form in Foxit PDF Editor. The synchronization process does not properly protect against re-entry or verify the lifecycle of objects, causing a control pointer to fail during traversal. Despite the pointer failure, the process continues to dereference the pointer, resulting in a use-after-free condition that crashes the application. The vulnerability is classified as CWE-416 (Use After Free) and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 7.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause the application to crash, leading to denial of service. The CVSS vector indicates local attack vector with low attack complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, unchanged scope, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or workaround has been published by Foxit Software Inc. at this time. Users should monitor vendor communications for updates and avoid actions that trigger JavaScript form resetting in the affected product until a fix is available.
