Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: issdandavis
Product: SCBE-AETHERMOORE

Description

SCBE-AETHERMOORE versions from 4.0.2 up to but not including 4.2.1 have a missing authentication vulnerability in the AetherBrowser API server. The POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint is exposed without authentication, allowing any remote attacker to trigger the execution of a subprocess that accesses configured ProtonMail or Gmail accounts via IMAP and returns email metadata. The server listens on all interfaces by default and allows cross-origin requests from any origin. This issue is patched in version 4.2.1.

Technical Analysis

SCBE-AETHERMOORE is a geometric AI governance framework. Versions >=4.0.2 and <4.2.1 expose the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint in the AetherBrowser API server without authentication. This endpoint triggers the email_reader.py subprocess, which connects to ProtonMail or Gmail accounts via IMAP and returns email metadata such as sender, subject, and body snippet in the JSON response. The server binds to 0.0.0.0:8100 with CORS configured to allow all origins, making it accessible remotely and from any browser origin. The vulnerability is fixed in version 4.2.1.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can invoke the vulnerable endpoint to retrieve email metadata from configured ProtonMail or Gmail accounts. This results in a confidentiality breach of email metadata. The vulnerability does not impact integrity or availability. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 7.5 (high), reflecting network attack vector, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high confidentiality impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade SCBE-AETHERMOORE to version 4.2.1 or later, where the missing authentication issue on the /api/ops/check-email endpoint is patched. Until then, restrict network access to the API server and disable or secure the vulnerable endpoint if possible.
